News regarding the impact of this malware on Xiaomi phones remains scarce. The initial report surfaced on Reddit from a user who spotted the issue:

Hey, guy’s I have recently seen on all my Xiaomi phone that my google chrome home page was change to a site name “Mintnav”. Be careful to change it. I didn’t found any documentation about this site so I think it’s a scam (a thing that I found to many times made by Xiaomi).

Upon discovering this news, numerous Twitter users also voiced their concerns. One individual even tagging the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology for India.

Although users’ concerns regarding this issue are well-founded, the origin of this alien program on phones remains a mystery. Interestingly, there have been no reports of Mintnav affecting users of other Android phone brands. Which raises questions about Xiaomi’s likely involvement. Speculation suggests that this alleged malware might have found its way onto Xiaomi or Redmi smartphones following a software update or through some other means.
